>I read a great book a couple of years ago called “Younger Next Year* for Women”, by Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge.  It’s targeted at us over-50 gals, but it speaks truth and is a fun read.  Among other things, the authors advise plenty of exercise – 6 days a week – and Harry’s Fifth Rule:  Quit eating crap!

The special thing about getting past 50 is that stuff is starting to break, or break down.  A good look in the rear-view mirror, if we are brutally honest with ourselves, tells the tale – we are not exercising very much, and there still is plenty of “crap” in our diets.  There is nothing new in that.  I was not exercising much or eating very well in my 30’s or 40’s either, but the evidence was not showing up in my health back then. . . and I’m very fortunate that it is not showing up much now either.

Two people who are close to me in life are in the hospital right now with pneumonia.  Both are women over 50.  This is sobering to me.  It is clear evidence that health is precious and not to be taken for granted.  Evidence that serious illness is not something that only happens to “other people”. 

As Crowley and Lodge might say, it is time to swim against the tide to avoid being washed up on the shore.  Guess you kind of have to read the book to fully grasp the reference.  In a nutshell:  You have a choice!  Enjoy the feeling of being healthy for as loooooooong as you possibly can!  Exercise to the point of sweat 6 days a week and QEC (quit eating crap!).  Take care of you.  You are worth it!
