How Exercise Helps Cancer Patients

Check out this article from the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom.  They are recommending that cancer patients and cancer survivors will benefit from moderate exercise during treatment and after.  Benefits include:

  • about 40% lower risk of breast cancer returning
  • about 50% lower risk of colon cancer returning or dying of colorectal cancer
  • about 30% lower risk of men dying from prostate cancer

Here’s my question:  If exercise can help prevent cancer from returning, can it help prevent cancer from starting in the first place?  It does not seem like a huge leap of logic to me that healthy lifestyle habits – including regular exercise – can help to prevent cancer.

There is a link in the NHS article to a PDF file to help you get started on your path to more exercise:

Whether you are fighting cancer or just looking to improve your health, I wish you all the best!
